Staying well

Staying well involves looking after ourselves in total (‘holistically’).

It means realising that we have physical, emotional and spiritual needs and finding ways in which we can better meet these needs.

It means learning to enjoy ourselves, life and other people whenever and wherever we are able.

It means not being unduly influenced by our past, so we're able to live in the current moment.

It means not worrying so much about the future that we forget to enjoy ourselves today. Eric Berne (1910 – 1970) said that recovery involved rediscovering our capacity for creativity, intimacy and spontaneity.

He used the word ‘rediscovering’ on purpose, reminding us that we're born creative, intimate and spontaneous. It’s just that somehow life can knock these things out of us.
